Florida 'Earthquake' Caused By 10,000-Pound Navy BombA mysterious “earthquake” detected off the Florida coast over the weekend was actually the result of testing by the U.S. Navy, U.S. Geological Survey officials say.
Seismographs as far away as Minnesota, Texas and Oklahoma registered a 3.7 magnitude event around 4 p.m. Saturday, about 168 nautical miles east-northeast of Daytona Beach Shores, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported. But it appears those readings were triggered by a manmade explosion designed to test the seaworthiness of a new U.S. Navy vessel, the USS Jackson. A spokesperson told the News-Journal that the Navy is working on a statement it expects to release this week, but according to geophysicist Bruce Presgrave, a large underwater explosion "would almost certainly be detected as an earthquake." https://weather.com/news/news/navy-testing-responsible-for-earthquake-reading-off-florida-coast?_escaped_fragment_ During a June 10 shock test on the Jackson, a 10,000-pound explosive charge was set off about 100 yards from the ship, Defense News reports. That same day, the USGS reported a 3.7 magnitude event similar to the one that occurred over the weekend, the News-Journal said. The Navy informed NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service that another shock trial would be conducted between July 16 and 20, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Shock trials help to “demonstrate the ship’s ability to withstand an explosion,” Capt. Thurraya Kent, a spokesperson for the Navy’s acquisition directorate, told Defense News. About 260 instruments are placed throughout the ship to measure various aspects of the blast, which strikes above and below the water. The ship’s crew of about 50 and a number of engineers and observers are usually on board during tests. Commissioned last December, the Jackson came through the first test with only minor damage, according to Kent, such as items falling to the deck or glass cracking. The Jackson is one of is one of the Navy's new Independence class of littoral combat ships, which will conduct anti-submarine, surface and mine countermeasure operations around the globe. http://www.amsmeteors.org/members/imo_view/event/2016/2463 fire ball report july 17th around 4am? ground shook coming home tonight I got another premonition its not good.............. heard the song low rider today ... you know what that means doom on its way.
there was an earthquake http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us20006f8n#map yah know if something moved out on the ocean floor big enough it could cause a tsunami The quake happened at 4 p.m., and was centered about 105 miles off the coast of Daytona Beach, the USGS said. Florida is not considered to be a state that is subject to earthquakes and only several minor shocks have occurred in the state. Only one earthquake has caused damage in Florida, according to the USGS. While quakes off the Central Florida coast are rare, USGS data shows a similarly weak earthquake registered in the same area last month. http://www.wesh.com/news/earthquake-recorded-off-daytona-beach-coast/40746994 http://www.ioc-sealevelmonitoring.org/station.php?code=fbfl2 WEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) - The final step in the pursuit of a degree is getting some Florida International University graduate students all shook up this weekend. There is no final exam for the first graduating class of FIU’s Academy for International Disaster Preparedness. In what constitutes a first for the academic institution, the 39 students are participating in a full-scale, 48-hour disaster drill simulating a catastrophic earthquake. In the drill, the group is divided in teams that will have to build a base of operations and conduct field assessments. FIU officials praised the participants’ dedication. “These students are the best, and so unique. They really come from our community,” said Ruben Almaguer, FIU’s Assistant Vice President for Disaster Management and Emergency Operations. “They’re firefighters, they’re law enforcement officers, they’re in the military, the U.S. Coast Guard. We have a doctor, we have a lawyer, we have other civilians who want to get into this field.” Saturday afternoon, students worked directly with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue’s Air Rescue and Marine Divisions and the U.S. Coast Guard. They will be transported aboard a Coast Guard vessel and a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue fire boat. They will also assist in aerial damage assessment using a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue helicopter to evaluate a simulated disaster site across Biscayne Bay. these pokemon kids are crazy! check the link out-> https://vimeo.com/174821377

Since the release of the smartphone game last week, police have gotten a flurry of calls from residents about possible burglars or other strangers prowling the neighborhood. So far, few tickets have been issued, and there have been no reports of arrests or assaults on trespassers playing the game, whose object is use the phone's GPS technology to find and capture animated creatures in real-world places. https://www.yahoo.com/news/pokemon-players-trespassing-risking-arrest-worse-194233630.html I got a new gig today making 2 headpieces you will never believe what the theme is..
